Don't know if you've been following the story, but one overachieving Harvard sophomore experienced a further fall from grace as her publisher yanked her book How Opal Mehta Got Kissed, Got Wild, and Got a Life off the bookshelves after finding credible evidence of plagiarism.
In a letter from another self-avowed East Indian overachiever: "I have to confess to a sneaking sense of relief when Opal Mehta's life came crashing down around you. It's not schadenfreude. It's just this relief that finally we can fail, that we can screw up spectacularly and live to tell the tale. Only we Indian-Americans know it's hard out there for an overachieving Indian-American."
It's not just East Indians... Chinese kids are also feeling the squeeze - article here. Excerpt: "Forget about playtime. Children today are caught up in an endless race of extra tuition sessions, tennis classes, piano lessons, late-night homework and much, much more. Are we preparing them for success or overloading them with stress?"
